94,45 percent against asylum seekers in the south of Burgenland

Public opinion polls against camps for asylum seekers are quite in fashion in Austrias eastern province Burgenland these days. Already for the second time within a short period the people in Burgenland were called to the urns, to decide if there should be camps for asylum seekers or not.

Also the second time the result was crystal clear. 94,45 percent voted no. In many villages and districts was not even one single aye.

The village of Stinatz was the place with the biggest approval. 15,2 percent of the people there would like to have a camp for asylum seekers in their village.

The reactions of the obvious result were different. Socialdemocrats were talking about a “victory of the rationality.” The Greens were angry about the referendum. “It’s not alright to make a public opinion poll about the fundamental right of asylum”, was their message after the result. The Peoples party said that the clear result was conceivable, and the Freedom party told that the result was “in our sense.”
