The latest discussion about abolition of the compulsory military service in Austria was not music in the ears of Austrias chancellor Werner Faymann. In an interview in Austrias daily newspaper called “Österreich”, he confirmed that he wants to keep the compulsory military service in Austria.
Faymann explains that the most important thing about the Austrian army is the question how to save most of the money for national defence. The chancellor thinks it’s not proven that a professional army would be cheaper as the compulsory military service.
“A professional army with the double of the cost of a militia army is a horror imagination for me”, confirms Faymann who is still searching for a new way to get more tax money. A bank tax should solve the problem and bring 500 million Euro extra into the budget.
