Socialdemocrat and minister of defence Norbert Darabos declared during an interview with the daily newspaper called “Österreich” that his biggest dream would be to save some money for his native country.
Darabos wants to economize more than 300 spies in the Austrian secret service. He also explained a professional army would cost the double if there would be an abolition of a compulsory military service. That’s the main reason of his violent aversion against a professional army.
Green politican Peter Pilz don’t want to hear such ideas. He plans a petition for a referendum against the compulsory military service in Austria. Darabos is upset about that and fears a total removal of the Austrian army.
